Low-Level Light Therapy (LLLT / Photobiomodulation Therapy)
What’s the Procedure:
Low-Level Light Therapy (LLLT), also known as red light therapy or photobiomodulation, is a non-invasive treatment that uses specific wavelengths of light (usually red or near-infrared) to stimulate cellular activity, promote healing, reduce inflammation, and improve tissue regeneration in skin and hair.
Mechanism:
LLLT works by delivering photons (light energy) into the skin, which are absorbed by mitochondria within the cells. This boosts the production of ATP (adenosine triphosphate), the energy currency of the cell, thereby enhancing cellular metabolism, reducing oxidative stress, and stimulating processes like collagen synthesis, wound healing, and hair follicle activity.
Wavelengths typically used:
Red light (630–660 nm): Targets the skin’s surface for anti-aging and skin repair.
Near-infrared (810–850 nm): Penetrates deeper to affect muscles, joints, and deeper tissues.
Indications:
Hair loss (androgenetic alopecia, telogen effluvium)
Acne and acne inflammation
Post-procedure recovery (laser, microneedling, peels)
Fine lines and skin rejuvenation
Rosacea or sensitive skin
Muscle fatigue or joint pain (in physiotherapy)
Wound healing and scar recovery
Anaesthesia Required or Not:
No anesthesia is required. It is a completely painless and comfortable treatment.
Painful or Not:
Not painful at all. Patients often describe the experience as relaxing, with a mild warm sensation.
What to Expect from the Treatment:
Regular sessions (2–3 times per week) lead to visible improvement over 4–6 weeks
In skin: improved glow, reduced inflammation, better tone and firmness
In hair: improved density, reduced shedding, enhanced follicle strength
Post-procedure: faster healing, reduced redness, minimized downtime
Completely safe for all skin types, with no downtime or side effects
Can be combined with microneedling, PRP, facials, peels, or laser treatments for enhanced recovery and results
Who Can Do:
Individuals with hair thinning, dull or aging skin
